Cradle Mountain Day Tour

Experience the magical splendour; that is, Cradle Mountain. Discover the natural beauty of this World Heritage listed National Park. See amazing waterfalls, rainforest, glacial lakes and King Billy Pine forests, thousands of years old. Travel through historical towns, past Australian Blue Gum and pine plantations. Visit Sheffield to view the stunning town murals. Browse the Cradle Mountain visitor centre before choosing from the spectacular walks, such as the Enchanted Forest to see the Pencil Pine, lush forest, waterfall and Dove Lake, with spectacular views of Cradle Mountain. There is a great chance to see our famous native wild life such as Wombats, Potaroos and Wallabies. Visit the Waldheim Chalet, the forest home of Austrian born pioneer, Gustav Weindorfer before returning to Launceston, stopping at Ashgrove Cheese Farm to sample some of Tassie’s finest cheeses. Lunch is not provided but there are opportunities to purchase food and beverages during the tour. Fare includes National Park entrance fee.

Freycinet National Park

Pass though the coal mining region of the Break-O’Day plains to the 150 year old town of St Mary’s for morning tea (at own cost). The region dominated by St Patrick’s Head, named 30 years before Tasmania was colonized. Travel the famous St Mary’s Pass, a convict built winding path joining the eastern highlands with the coast. We make our way to the sealing and whaling town of Bicheno and the Blowhole. Pass through Coles Bay, a small, but thriving town and the gateway to Freycinet National Park, with its renowned white, silica rich beaches and colourful granite rock formations of the hazards and Freycinet Peninsula. You will have a choice of a challenging walk to the lookout or drive to the lighthouse for awe-inspiring views of Wineglass Bay, the beach said to be in the top ten best in the world. We will return to Launceston via Lake Leake and Campbell Town. Lunch is not provided but there are opportunities to purchase food and beverages during the tour. Fare includes National Park entrance fee.

West Tamar Wonders

Enjoy views of Launceston City on the way to Brady’s Lookout where the magnificence of the Tamar River Valley can be seen from a vantage point once used by bushranger Mathew Brady.

 

Visit Beauty Point, where at Platypus House, we watch Tasmanian Platypuses and Echidnas on a fully guided tour of the facility. You are guaranteed to see these spectacular egg laying mammals up close, including live feeding demonstrations.

 

At Seahorse World your guide will provide an interpretive tour of the world’s first seahorse farm, its history and of course the amazing life of the seahorse, with an introduction to the live marine creatures in their touch tank.

 

We pass through the gold mining town of Beaconsfield and some of Tasmania’s famous northern vineyards on to the iconic A-framed cable truss Batman Bridge, spanning the Tamar River at Whirlpool Reach.

 

Visit the Swiss style resort village of Grindelwald, in its magnificent setting amid lakes and spectacular views. Take time to indulge in the variety of shops and café’s before returning to Launceston. Lunch is not provided but there are opportunities to purchase food and beverages during the tour

Penguin and Places

Travel the East Tamar highway to Mount George lookout for spectacular views of historic George Town where Australia’s third European Settlement began in 1804, the Tamar Valley and Bass Strait. Then it is on to Low Head at sunset for the highlight of the tour, the penguin parade.

During the first hour of darkness, you will see penguins up close and personal in their natural environment. Professional guides will ensure you have an amazing and informative experience with these delightful little creatures. Learn about their daily routine during a one hour walking tour of the rookery. Sturdy footwear and warm clothing is recommended. Photography (no flash) and video (no light) is allowed.

Launceston Look-about

This tour gives you a fantastic overview of Australia’s third oldest city, some of its magnificent early architecture, history and heritage. Visit the Macaque Monkey Park, floral gardens and conservatory. Experience the amazing Cataract Gorge and First Basin where a ride on the world’s longest single span chairlift is optional (at own cost).

Or just wander in awe of the natural features of this picturesque area. Visit the Design Centre, Inveresk cultural precinct, Windmill hill, Trevallyn Dam, Duck Reach historic power station and suspension bridge, and Country Club Tasmania.
